MUSCLE & JOINT PAIN

PAIN IS JUST A SYMPTOM

Muscle and joint pain, also known as musculoskeletal pain, is a common condition that affects millions of people worldwide.

It refers to discomfort, aching, or soreness in the muscles, bones, ligaments, tendons, or joints of the body. Some of the symptoms may include: pain, stiffness, swelling & inflammation, limited range of motion & muscle spasm.

HOW PHYSIOTHERAPY HELP?

Physiotherapy for muscle and joint pain employs manual techniques, exercises, and modalities to alleviate pain, improve mobility, and enhance muscle strength and joint function.

It aims to address the root cause of the pain, promote healing, and restore optimal musculoskeletal health for better overall well-being.

WHO SHOULD COME FOR PHYSIOTHERAPY?

  • Injuries: Strains, sprains, fractures, and dislocations can lead to acute muscle and joint pain.
  • Overuse: Repetitive movements or excessive use of certain muscles or joints can cause overuse injuries and pain.
  • Arthritis: Various types of arthritis, such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and gout, can result in joint pain and inflammation.
  • Inflammatory Conditions: Conditions like tendonitis, bursitis, and fibromyalgia can cause localized or widespread muscle and joint pain.
  • Nerve Compression: Pinched nerves, as seen in conditions like sciatica, can cause pain that radiates into the muscles or joints.
  • Posture and Alignment Issues: Poor posture and alignment can lead to muscle imbalances and pain in the muscles and joints.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE SESSION

BEFORE

Before the therapy starts, you will undergo a thorough evaluation, including a discussion of your medical history, specific symptoms, and any previous injuries or conditions related to your muscle and joint pain. The therapist will then conduct physical tests to assess your range of motion, muscle strength, joint stability, and any functional limitations, and set clear and achievable goals for your therapy, considering your individual needs and expectations.

DURING

Based on the assessment, the therapist will create a personalized treatment plan, which may include manual therapy involving joint mobilization, soft tissue manipulation to address specific areas of pain and tightness. You will also be guided through targeted exercises to improve muscle strength, flexibility, and joint stability. Also will do education on proper body mechanics, posture, and self-management techniques to prevent exacerbation of the pain.

AFTER

The therapist will provide you with a home exercise program to continue your progress and maintain the gains achieved during therapy. You might receive advice on lifestyle modifications, such as ergonomics at work or appropriate physical activities, to support your recovery.
