DRY NEEDLING

INSTANT PAIN RELIEF

Dry needling is a therapeutic technique used by physiotherapists to relieve pain and restore proper muscle function.

It involves the insertion of thin, sterile needles into trigger points or tight bands of muscle. These trigger points are areas of increased muscle tension or knots that contribute to pain and restricted movement.

HOW DRY NEEDLING HELP?

When a needle is inserted into a trigger point, it creates a local twitch response.

This twitch is an involuntary contraction of the muscle, which helps to release tension, improve blood flow, and promote healing.

The goal is to reset the muscle, improve its flexibility, and reduce pain and discomfort.

PROBLEM THAT DRY NEEDLING CAN HELP WITH

  • Tension Headaches and Migraines: Dry needling can be used to relieve tension and reduce the frequency and intensity of tension headaches and migraines.
  • Shoulder Pain: Conditions like rotator cuff injuries, frozen shoulder, and shoulder impingement can benefit from dry needling to release tension and improve mobility.
  • Muscles and Joints Pain: Dry needling can assist in reducing pain and inflammation associated with these overuse injuries.
  • Neck and Back Pain: Dry needling can target the tight muscles and trigger points in the neck and back, providing relief from chronic pain.
  • Sciatica: Dry needLing can be utilized to relieve the pain and muscle tightness associated with sciatic nerve irritation.
  • Plantar Fasciitis: Dry needling can help in managing pain and promoting healing in the plantar fascia, which causes heel pain.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE SESSION

BEFORE

Before starting the dry needling procedure, the physiotherapist will conduct an initial assessment of your condition. We will ask you about your medical history, current symptoms, and any specific areas of pain or discomfort.

DURING

During the session, the physiotherapist may gently manipulate or stimulate them to elicit a “twitch response.” This is a brief, involuntary contraction of the muscle, indicating that the trigger point has been targeted. You might experience various sensations during the procedure, such as a dull ache, tingling, warmth, or even a sense of heaviness. These sensations are normal and are a sign that the muscles are responding to the treatment.

AFTER

After the treatment, you might feel a sense of soreness at the needle insertion site. The physiotherapist will teach some exercises and self care techniques that you can perform at home to complement the effects of dry needling and promote healing.
