Physiotherapy

VS Physical Therapy

The terms Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy are often used interchangeably, but they have regional and contextual nuances. “Physiotherapy,” commonly used in the UK, Australia, Canada, and India. In contrast, “Physical Therapy,” predominantly used in the United States. At Normed, our Physiotherapy focus is on improving physical function, reducing pain, and enhancing quality of life.

Are You Having

Scoliosis is a condition where the spine rotated, often in an "S" or "C" shape. It can occur at any age but is most commonly diagnosed during adolescence (10 to 19 years old). The curvature can range from mild to severe and may lead to physical discomfort, pain, and posture issues.

How Normed Physiotherapy with the Schroth Method Can Help

Originating from Germany, the Schroth Method is a specialized Physiotherapy approach designed to treat scoliosis. It focuses on tailored exercises that help improve posture, and strengthen the muscles supporting the spine thus preventing further progression of the scoliosis. By targeting the specific curvature pattern of the individual's spine, the Schroth Method can reduce pain, enhance mobility, and potentially slow the progression of scoliosis. At Normed, we are proud to have a pioneer batch of Schroth practitioners who are certified and fully qualified to treat scoliosis with this advanced method.

Numbness is a loss of sensation or a tingling feeling in a part of the body, often affecting the hands, feet, arms, or legs. It can result from various conditions, such as nerve compression, poor circulation, or underlying health issues like diabetes.

How Normed Physiotherapy Can Help

Physiotherapy can effectively address numbness by identifying and treating its root cause. Through targeted exercises, manual therapy, and techniques like dry needling, physiotherapists can relieve nerve compression, improve circulation, and restore normal sensation. At Normed, our therapists are qualified in dry needling (Switzerland), a specialized technique that can help reduce muscle tension, enhance nerve function, and alleviate numbness.

Swelling is the enlargement or puffiness of a body part, often due to fluid buildup in the tissues. It can occur from injury, inflammation, infection, or underlying medical conditions like arthritis or heart disease. Swelling may cause discomfort, restrict movement, and indicate an underlying issue that needs attention.

How Physiotherapy Can Help

Physiotherapy can effectively manage and reduce swelling by addressing its underlying cause. Techniques such as manual lymphatic drainage, sport massage, compression therapy, and targeted exercises can help improve circulation, reduce fluid buildup, and alleviate discomfort. By promoting proper healing and restoring normal function, Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in managing swelling and preventing further complications.

Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience that signals potential or actual tissue damage in the body. It can be acute, resulting from injury or surgery, or chronic, persisting over time due to conditions like arthritis or nerve damage. Pain varies in intensity and can significantly affect a person's quality of life, limiting mobility and daily activities.

How Physiotherapy Can Help

Physiotherapy can effectively manage and alleviate pain by addressing its underlying causes. Through a combination of manual therapy, targeted exercises, and modalities such as heat, cold, or electrical stimulation, physiotherapists can reduce inflammation, improve mobility, and strengthen the affected areas. By promoting proper movement patterns and reducing muscle tension. At Normed, Physiotherapy treatment methods not only relieves pain but also helps prevent its recurrence, enabling individuals to return to their normal activities with improved function and comfort.

Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a spinal condition characterized by an abnormal rotation at spine, often forming an "S" or "C" shape. The severity of scoliosis is measured using the Cobb angle, which indicates the degree of curvature. A Cobb angle greater than 10 degrees is typically considered scoliosis. This condition most commonly develops during adolescence, but it can occur at any age, leading to uneven level of shoulder and hip, pain, and for some severe scoliosis  might need to wear brace or even do spinal fusion surgery.

At Normed Physical Therapy, we specialize in treating scoliosis using the Schroth Method (Germany)—a non-surgical, evidence-based physiotherapy approach that focuses on customized exercises that help realign the spine, improve posture, and strengthen the muscles that support the spine.

Neck: Neck Pain | Migraine

Ergonomic posture and cervical spine flexibility issues are key factors in preventing neck problems, yet many people overlook them. Neglecting these aspects can lead to severe migraines, hand weakness, pain, and numbness, often resulting from nerve compression or muscle strain in the neck. If left untreated, these conditions can worsen, leading to chronic pain, reduced neck mobility, and decreased daily productivity.

At Normed Physical Therapy, our expert physiotherapy treatments focus on addressing the root causes of neck issues. We improve ergonomic posture, enhance muscle flexibility and strength, and align the spine to relieve pain and restore function.

Spine: Slipped Disc

Poor ergonomic posture, lack of core strength, sit or stand for long hours, heavy lifting, and a sedentary lifestyle can lead to severe back pain, leg weakness and numbness. These symptoms often result from a herniated disc pressing on nearby nerves. If left untreated, these conditions can worsen, leading to chronic pain, reduced mobility, and decreased daily productivity.

At Normed Physical Therapy, our expert physiotherapy treatments focus on addressing the root causes of slipped disc issues. We improve ergonomic posture, enhance muscle flexibility and strength, and align the spine to relieve pain and restore function.

Shoulder: Frozen Shoulder

Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition characterized by stiffness, pain, and limited range of motion in the shoulder joint. This condition typically develops gradually and can significantly impact daily activities, making it difficult to perform even simple tasks like reaching overhead or behind your back.

The exact cause of frozen shoulder isn't always clear, but it often occurs after an injury, surgery, or prolonged immobilization of the shoulder. If left untreated, frozen shoulder can lead to chronic pain, severe stiffness, and a prolonged recovery period.

At Normed Physical Therapy, our expert physiotherapy treatments are designed to relieve pain, restore mobility, and improve shoulder function. We use targeted exercises, manual therapy, and other modalities to gradually reduce stiffness and restore full range of motion. Early intervention is key to preventing long-term complications and ensuring a quicker recovery.

Elbow: Tennis Elbow | Golfer's elbow

Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) and golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis) are common conditions that cause pain and inflammation in the elbow due to overuse of the forearm muscles. Despite their names, these conditions aren't limited to athletes; they can affect anyone who performs repetitive motions, such as gripping, lifting, or twisting.

Tennis elbow occurs on the outer part of the elbow and is often triggered by repetitive wrist and arm motions.

Golfer's elbow, on the other hand, affects the inner part of the elbow and is associated with repetitive gripping or wrist flexion. Both conditions can cause pain, weakness, and reduced grip strength, making it difficult to perform daily tasks.

At Normed Physical Therapy, our expert physiotherapy treatments focus on relieving pain, reducing inflammation, and restoring strength to the affected muscles. Through targeted exercises, manual therapy, dry needling and ergonomic adjustments, we help patients recover from tennis elbow and golfer's elbow, preventing further injury and promoting long-term elbow health.

Hand: De Quervain Tenosynovitis (Mommy's Hand)

De Quervain Tenosynovitis, commonly known as "Mommy's Hand," is a painful condition affecting the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist. It often develops due to repetitive hand and wrist motions, such as lifting a baby, typing, or gripping objects, making it particularly common among new mothers and those with jobs involving repetitive hand movements.

This condition causes pain and swelling near the base of the thumb, making it difficult to grasp or pinch objects. If left untreated, De Quervain Tenosynovitis can lead to chronic pain, reduced hand function, and difficulty performing daily tasks.

At Normed Physical Therapy, our expert physiotherapy treatments focus on reducing pain and inflammation, restoring mobility, and strengthening the affected tendons. Through targeted exercises, manual therapy, and ergonomic guidance, we help patients recover from De Quervain Tenosynovitis and regain full use of their hands.

Hip: Sciatica

Sciatica is a condition characterized by pain that radiates along the sciatic nerve, which runs from the hips and down each leg. This pain is often caused by a poor posture, tightness of piriformis muscle, or other issues that compress the nerve, leading to sharp, shooting pain, tingling, or numbness in the hip, buttocks, and leg.

Sciatica can significantly affect mobility and daily activities, making it difficult to walk, sit, or stand for extended periods. If left untreated, sciatica can lead to chronic pain, muscle weakness, and reduced quality of life.

At Normed Physical Therapy, our expert physiotherapy treatments focus on relieving sciatic nerve compression, reducing pain, and improving hip and spine alignment. Through targeted exercises, manual therapy, and posture correction, we help patients alleviate sciatica symptoms and prevent future flare-ups, enabling them to return to their normal activities with improved comfort and function.

Ankle: Plantar Fasciitis | Ankle Sprain

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the thick band of tissue (plantar fascia) that runs along the bottom of the foot, causing sharp heel pain, especially in the morning or after prolonged periods of sit or stand. It often results from overuse, improper footwear, or excessive strain on the foot.

Ankle sprains occur when the ligaments supporting the ankle are overstretched or torn, usually due to a sudden twist, fall, or misstep. This injury leads to pain, swelling, and instability in the ankle, making it difficult to walk or bear weight on the affected foot.

At Normed Physical Therapy, our expert physiotherapy treatments focus on reducing pain, promoting healing, and restoring function for both plantar fasciitis and ankle sprains. We utilize targeted exercises, manual therapy, dry needling and personalized rehabilitation plans to strengthen the foot and ankle, improve flexibility, and prevent future injuries.
